Town of Stouffville Announces Partnership with Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge

Stouffville is proud to announce a five-year collaboration with Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge. This strategic alliance promises enhanced care and rehabilitation services for sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife within the Town's borders.

The partnership with Shades of Hope, a respected local charity and licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre, will ensure that the Town's native wildlife receive the best possible care and rehabilitation, with the goal of returning healthy animals back to their natural habitats. This collaboration not only underscores the Town's commitment to preserving its natural heritage but also aligns with its strategic vision for a healthier and greener community.

“We are so very pleased to welcome Whitchurch-Stouffville into the family of Wildlife Responsible municipalities, “said Founder & Board President of Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge, Gail Lenters. “As York Region continues to build and grow its urban communities, having a game plan for displaced and injured wildlife is a serious environmental responsibility. We look forward to working with Stouffville residents and the Animal Services team!”

With an annual financial contribution of $8,000 by the Town in addition to staff resources and materials, this partnership aims to deliver significant benefits with minimal financial strain on taxpayers.

"This initiative represents a strong leap forward in Stouffville’s wildlife conservation efforts,” said Mayor Iain Lovatt. “By working with Shades of Hope, we are ensuring that our community remains a safe and nurturing place for everyone who calls Stouffville home, both human and animal."
