BrowseAloud
If you have trouble reading online, learn how to make your computer speak back to you.
www.townofws.ca is a speech-enabled website that uses BrowseAloud, free software for people who have difficulty reading online. This includes people with mild visual impairment, people who speak English or French as a second language, or people with dyslexia or learning disabilities.
- How To -
Power button: Enter/exit speak mode, this enables your computer to read the webpage aloud to you.
Play button: Speak current selection, to make a selection highlight your desired text and press play.
Pause button: pause current selection, to resume current selection press the play button.
Stop button: Stop current selection, to resume current selection highlight desired text and press the play button.
MP3 button: Creates an MP3 of your current selection for use in your desired media player. You must highlight desired text and press the mp3 button to begin creation.
PA button: Displays a large ticker along the top of the screen that follows your current selection.
Pink mask button: Masks the areas around your current selection to make it easier to follow along.
