Learn From Home
The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre is committed to providing the community with educational and interactive experiences. Your experience is our priority. That's why we are currently offering Learn From Home modules. We believe learning is a lifelong journey, and we hope you find enjoyment in these activities!
YouSeum:
Get creative for this week’s Learn from Home activity and curate your own story, right in the comfort of your own home! You have probably visited a museum before, but have you made your own? Design, organization and creativity are the focus of this activity.
Gardens:
Ready for our next Learn From Home activity?! Today we will be learning all about Pioneer Gardens. Explore what the pioneers planted and how they used what they grew.
Hint: they used the things in their gardens for much more than just food!
We’d love to see the pictures you complete for this activity, send them to: wsmuseum@townofws.ca.
Archaeology:
This week, dig into the topic of archaeology! What does it mean to be an archaeologist and what happens if you find an artifact while on a hike?
Explore these topics and more in this Learn From Home module, as well as an at-home activity sure to bring out the archaeologist in the entire family!
Toys and Games:
Did Early Settler and Victorian children have fun in their leisure time without digital gaming systems, cell phones and television?
Explore for yourself in this Learn From Home module all about the toys, games and chores that kept children busy day in and day out. This lesson even includes a DIY for your own old fashioned toy!
Canadian War Cake:
For this learn-from-home activity, join Program Coordinator Ohan, in the kitchen to cook up a little piece of history with Canadian War Cake.
Follow along in your own kitchen with this step-by-step video as he discusses Rationing, the War Effort, and The Home Front!
My Family Tree:
Family Trees tell us a lot about our families and their unique stories. This activity will help create links between the present and the past of your own family.

Pandemic Journal:
Calling all residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville! The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre is asking for your participation in a project to keep a record of your experience during this unprecedented time.
We’re asking that you share your story by completing a journal of your daily life as you navigate through self-isolation & social/physical distancing (you can do this as a family or as an individual). We’re providing you with some suggestions (seen in the image on the left). However, you can share any information that you feel is important. The purpose of collecting this information is to share our experience with future generations. You can also submit photos you’d like included in the historic record to the email address below.
Your journals can be submitted at any time following the resolution of the Covid-19 Pandemic via email to: wsmuseum@townofws.ca or you can mail it directly to the Museum:
