There are several ways that you can support YOUR Museum. Any contributions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks to the generosity of many artifact donors, the W-S Museum holds a collection of close to 18,000 artifacts with the goal of preserving and sharing the history of the communities of Whitchurch and Stouffville.
Do you have something to donate? View our Collections Management Policy to see if your items are a good fit for the Museum and then contact us!
An artifact can become a part of the Museum's permanent collection, a hands-on artifact, or a prop. When you donate an artifact to the Museum, you may also be eligible to receive a tax receipt.
Corporate Sponsorship is encouraged for businesses that would like to show support for community events and projects.
The annual Car Show receives numerous sponsors at varying financial levels, and sponsorship opportunities are available for all other Museum special events, including Doors Open Whitchurch-Stouffville, A Candlelight Christmas, and our “An Evening With…” dinner series.
Contributions can also be made to either of the Museum's Endowment Funds.
Individuals can make donations that support Museum operations in several areas:
- In honour of a person of their choosing
- To support a specific program or area of interest
To support the Museum Endowment Fund: The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum Endowment Fund was established by municipal by-law in April 1994 as a means of supporting the Museum's annual operations in the face of reduced government funding for cultural institutions.
Donations made to the Endowment Fund remain forever intact while the interest revenue generated through the investment of the Fund provides yearly financial support for the ongoing preservation, research and educational activities of the Museum. Specifically, the interest earned can be used by the Museum in the following manners:- Exhibition: to support the exhibitions program, including in-house, contract, outreach, research and loan of artifact expenses.
- Research/Publication: to support research and publication as part of the ongoing work of staff and volunteers.
- Conservation/Preservation: to support the need for ongoing conservation/preservation of the collection and its documentation. The interest can be used for operating or capital expenditures in each of these areas.
The Fund currently stands at just under $51,000.00 (year end 2018). The principal of the endowment fund stays forever intact while the interest from the account is transferred annually to the Museum’s operating budget.
To support the Building Conservation Endowment Fund Created in 2003, with a matching grant from the Province of Ontario through the Heritage Challenge Fund, the Building Conservation Endowment Fund supports maintenance and conservation of the Museum's Historic Buildings - all designated in 1996 under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Staff and volunteers worked very hard for two years to raise our $50,000 contribution to the fund. Several special events were planned, including road tolls, a dinner theatre, a Swing Night, and a Barn Dance with dinner and silent auctions. Additional donations were also secured from Council, local businesses and community organizations, heritage organizations, charitable foundations, as well as private individuals.
The Fund currently stands at $100,000.00 (year end 2018). The principal of the endowment fund stays forever intact while the interest from the account is transferred annually to the Museum’s operating budget.
