Adapted and Integrated Recreation

Our pool offers Aqua wheelchairs and features a wheelchair lift and ramp for easy access. Use of the change table and Hoyer lift can be requested at reception desk of the Leisure Centre. Family change rooms have wheelchair accessible washrooms. "The lifesaving society swim program is inclusive and strives to meet the individual needs of each participant. This incorporates the Canadian Swim to Survive standard by recognizing all Canadians deserve the chance to learn basic swimming skills." The launch of the Play Buddies program, have strengthened our ability to offer 1:1 support within a typical class for those who qualify. Volunteers are able to work with individuals in building on their current skills to develop swim and water safety competence. Goals include working on personal bests, while keeping in mind opportunity for social interaction among other classmates. The Adapted Aquatics program has proved to be a very positive and encouraging opportunity for those who need that little bit of extra attention. |
