Livestock Claims
If you are a registered farmer, you may qualify for compensation for livestock, poultry (cows, horses, sheep, chickens, etc) killed, or injured by a predator such as a coyote, wolf or dog. The municipality processes claims for damages under the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program.
To make a claim:
Email your name, property address and telephone number or call our Customer Service Centre.
A Livestock Valuer will contact you as quickly as possible. If the event occurs on a weekend, please take accurate digital photos to assist with your claim
To be compensated, you will be required to present the following:
- Social Insurance Number
- Premises I.D. Number
- Farm Business Registration Number

Poundkeeper
On occasion, livestock may be found roaming on public or private property. The Town-appointed Poundkeeper keeps the animal until it is returned to its owner. If the animal is not claimed, it may be sold in accordance with the Pounds Act.
Livestock as defined by the Pounds Act includes cattle, goat, horse, sheep or swine.
