Responsible Pet Ownership
Lost Pets
All strays will go to the shelter if picked up by an animal patrol officer. Visit the Pickering Animal Services Website to view photographs of all dogs and cats that have been picked up in the Whitchurch-Stouffville area and shows the date that the animal was delivered to the shelter.
Pickering Animal Services also runs an Animal Adoption Centre at their shelter. You can learn the history and view some of the pets they have for adoption.

Pet Ownership
Here is a list of some things you need to consider prior to bringing a new pet into your home:
- Dogs must be licensed with the Town each year
- Dogs must be on a leash when off your property and cannot run free except in the off-leash dog park
- You are responsible for picking up after your dog
- Have your pet spayed or neutered
- Outdoor cat owners - please be considerate of your neighbours by providing your cat with an indoor litter box
- Your pet needs adequate shelter from the heat, cold and/or wet conditions if it doesn't live indoors
- Your pet needs adequate food, water and veterinary care to maintain its health and well-being. Speak to your veterinarian for assistance and guidance
Dog Owners Liability Act (DOLA)
The Dog Owners Liability Act (DOLA) covers all dog breeds but has specific requirements for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull types.
