Town Of Stouffville Celebrates its 75th edition of ‘On The Road’ in Whitchurch-Stouffville Magazine

The 75th edition of On the Road in Whitchurch-Stouffville (OTR) was mailed out to residents on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

Launched back in 2016, OTR was originally created to share messaging from the Town with residents more cost effectively than through traditional advertising with local print media. The publication has now become much more than an advertising tool for the municipality.

“As the page count for OTR has grown, so too has our vision for what the publication can represent for our residents and business owners, said editor and Town of Stouffville Economic Development Officer, David Tuley. “OTR arms our residents with the knowledge needed to become community champions. More than just promoting business, tourism, events and agriculture, OTR is building a sense of place.”

In 2022, OTR highlighted 337 businesses, 184 special events and 123 matters of community importance. Each edition of OTR is complemented by four columnists; two are former local newspaper editors – Jim Mason and Bruce Stapley, while the other two are Susan Tucker (community champion and manager of the Stouffville Market) as well as Dave Mills (long-term resident and local real estate professional).

“With the unfortunate discontinuation of the Sun-Tribune newspaper in print, OTR is more important than ever for communicating with residents, promoting local businesses, tourism, and most importantly building community,” said Mayor Iain Lovatt. “I want to congratulate our economic development department for being the driving force behind OTR as well as all the volunteer contributors and advertisers.”

“The 75th edition cover features several photos from past editions,” Tuley said. “You will see rural and urban landscapes; service, farm, industrial, retail, restaurant, and non-profit businesses; new families and ‘founding’ families. This edition represents the past, the present and the future of Stouffville. Hence the title, OTR Makes Place - the 75th edition of OTR presents your place back to you.”
