Upcoming Water Swabbing Program Notice: Aug 31 - Sept 2 2026
The Town of Stouffville Environmental Services Department, with the help of the Ontario Clean Water Agency, will be conducting a Watermain Swabbing program in the Byer's Pond Park neighbourhood, near Hoover Park Drive between Park Drive and Tenth Line, for two consecutive nights between the hours of 9:00 PM until 5:30 AM on Monday, August 31, 2026, to Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Affected homes have been notified.
The process of swabbing is a common practice used throughout the water industry by many municipalities to maintain watermain infrastructure integrity. For more information on the process, please visit townofws.ca/swabbing
During this time, if your home has been notified, it is important that you do not use the water in your home. If possible, we recommend shutting off your main water supply valve (found on the exterior of your home by the water meter) before swabbing begins to avoid any potential water to be running during the swabbing process.
If you do not close your main water valve, there is a risk that discolored water, and sediment may be drawn into your home's plumbing system. If you cannot turn off the main water supply, please isolate hot water tanks, and bypass water softeners and irrigation systems for the duration of the work period.
Once the swabbing has been completed, please open the cold water tap closest to the water meter and allow the water to run until it runs clear. Be sure to run the water until clear before using your washing machine.
HELPFUL TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOUSEHOLD
- Before the scheduled work begins, fill up a clean container with tap water for drinking and cooking (store in the fridge)
- Complete all dishwashing, clothes washing, and other water use activities
- Fill your bathtub with water for use around the house (you may use a pail to transfer water from the bathtub to the toilet bowl to allow your toilet to flush)
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Customer Service at 905-640-1900.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to you and your household and we appreciate your cooperation as we work to maintain the integrity of our Town’s watermains.
