Precipitation Leads to Rescinding of Fire Ban in Stouffville

Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services is pleased to announce that the fire ban in Stouffville has been officially rescinded, effective Thursday August 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. The decision comes as a result of the recent precipitation experienced over the last week.

The fire ban, which was put into effect on August 11, 2025, aimed to protect the safety and well-being of the community. However, the recent rain showers and lower temperatures have created more favourable conditions, allowing for the removal of the fire ban.

It is important to note that non-recreational fires, such as burning brush or yard waste, require an open-air burn permit. Residents are requested to obtain the necessary burn permits from WSFES, which can be accessed conveniently on the Town's official website. Furthermore, WSFES reminds residents that leaves and garden waste, which may produce excessive smoke, should be disposed of through the Town's curbside collection service for yard waste.

To ensure the safety of all residents, WSFES emphasizes the following guidelines for recreational fires:

1. The fire must be contained within a maximum diameter and height of 0.75 meters.

2. Only clean wood products should be burned.

3. The fire must be supervised at all times until fully extinguished.

4. There should be a means of extinguishment readily available.

5. Maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from combustible materials.

6. Fires should not be lit when wind speeds exceed 20 kph, change frequently, or cause reduced visibility on nearby highways.

7. Fires emitting excessive smoke, sparks, or causing a nuisance are strictly prohibited.
