Town Launches New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations At Stouffville Leisure Centre

The Town of Stouffville is proud to announce the activation of four new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Stouffville Leisure Centre, further advancing the Town’s commitment to sustainability, climate action, and environmentally responsible community infrastructure.

The four-port EV charging station is now operational in the south parking lot of the Leisure Centre, near the south entrance and adjacent to the skating trail, providing convenient and accessible charging for residents and visitors. Charging is available at a rate of $2 per hour, consistent with industry standards across Ontario.

The total cost of the project was approximately $65,000, with $30,000 in funding provided through the Province of Ontario’s ChargeON Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Program. This provincial funding program supports municipalities and communities in expanding access to public EV charging infrastructure and accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation.

This initiative directly supports the Town’s Strategic Plan priorities, by advancing:

  • A Healthy & Greener Town – through reduced  greenhouse gas emissions and supporting low-carbon transportation
  • Organizational Effectiveness – through responsible infrastructure investment and grant optimization
  • A Town that Moves – by expanding modern transportation infrastructure and supporting future mobility needs

The installation of public EV charging infrastructure at the Stouffville Leisure Centre supports broader municipal environmental objectives, including reducing carbon emissions, promoting alternative transportation, and integrating sustainability into Town facilities and public spaces. The high-use, high-visibility location ensures accessibility for daily users, recreation participants, and visitors to the community.

“This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to a greener, more sustainable Stouffville,” said Mayor Iain Lovatt. “By expanding access to EV infrastructure, we’re not only supporting today’s residents but also paving the way for a cleaner, more connected future. This project demonstrates what’s possible when municipalities and the Province work together to create meaningful change.”

Through strategic partnerships, responsible investment, and provincial collaboration, the Town of Stouffville continues to build infrastructure that supports long-term environmental stewardship, community sustainability, and a more resilient future.
