Town of Stouffville Unveils New Neighbourhood Park
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville officially opened Sugar Maple Park, its newest neighbourhood park, today at 401 Baker Hill Boulevard. Mayor Iain Lovatt, members of Stouffville Council and Town staff celebrated the opening of the new community space.
Developed through comprehensive public consultation and detailed planning, Sugar Maple Park reflects the diverse and evolving needs of the community. Throughout the design development process, careful consideration was given to the budget, site limitations, and operational requirements.
Sugar Maple Park offers a variety of amenities including a scenic walking loop with woodlot views, newly planted greenery with an emphasis on native species, four pickleball courts, a tennis court, a basketball court, shaded accessible picnic tables, and open space. The playground features dedicated structures for both junior and senior age groups, with accessible play components that encourage interactive, play-based experiences for children of all abilities.
Accessibility features include partially ramped play structures, mobility aids, sensory-rich play panels, the Rock N Raft, a roller table, and ground-level activities. The playground’s engineered wood fibre surface is IPEMA certified and compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
“Council is thrilled to be able to celebrate the completion of this fantastic new recreational space,” said Mayor Iain Lovatt. “We are incredibly proud of Sugar Maple Park, a thoughtfully designed space that reflects the heart of our community, this park is a place where all residents can connect and enjoy the benefits of a welcoming public space.”
The Town gratefully acknowledges the contributions of the Stouffville Legacy Fund, the Stouffville Lions Club, and For Little Monkeys Charity. Their generous donations supported the installation of equipment specifically designed for neurodivergent users and children with accessibility needs.
“We are honoured to play a small role in this significant initiative and deeply appreciate the Legacy Fund’s support, as well as the Town of Stouffville’s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for all,” said Natalie Abkarian Cimini, of For Little Monkeys. “Collaborating with the Town has been an absolute pleasure. Their commitment to involving the community ensures the project’s success and reflects the evolving needs of Stouffville residents.”
