Town of Stouffville's First

Tiny Forest

Volunteer to help plant our Tiny Forest

This fall, a small but mighty forest is taking root in the heart of Stouffville. On November 1 at 10 a.m., Madori Park is set to become the home of the town’s first-ever Tiny Forest, a project made possible through a new partnership between the Town of Stouffville, Desjardins, and the national treeplanting charity Trees for Life.

On planting day, all are invited to grab a shovel and play a hands-on role in bringing the forest to life. Unlike traditional urban tree plantings, this project is inspired by the Miyawaki method, a proven approach to restoring ecosystems in urban environments by planting dense clusters of native species. Over time, this creates fastgrowing mini-forests that mimic the layers of a natural woodland, from shrubs to canopy trees. The result is a self-sustaining green space that cools the urban environment, supports pollinators and wildlife, and sequesters carbon, bringing measurable benefits to both people and the planet.

The Tiny Forest at Madori Park will be the first of its kind in Stouffville, but its impact will stretch far beyond the boundaries of the park. As the forest matures, it will improve air quality, capture rainwater, and create a cooling effect for nearby homes and park users. Just as importantly, it will serve as a daily reminder of the power of community-led action to address climate change and build resilience.
