Whitchurch-Stouffville Heritage Awards

The Heritage Awards honour those who have contributed to the conservation, restoration or adaptive reuse of a built heritage property in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Built Heritage Categories

A built heritage property is a building, property or constructed remnant that adds to a community’s heritage and identity.

Recipients are considered in two categories: residential property and non-residential property (i.e. commercial, industrial, institutional, etc.). 

Criteria

Properties are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Architectural significance: This criteria will look at the features of the building and property including craftsmanship, architectural features, and representation of architectural style and time period.
  2. Context: This criteria will examine the property in relation to its area – is it notable compared to neighbours? It is a landmark in the community?
  3. Historical value: This criteria will examine significant events and people associated with the property.
  4. General condition and maintenance: Properties that are not properly maintained should not be nominated.

The Heritage Advisory Committee invites you to nominate a property you believe should be recognized. Please note, only completed applications can be considered.
