Road Construction

Occasionally highways, roads, and neighborhood streets are scheduled for construction without closures, and may involve lane closures. 

Construction projects can be coordinated by either Stouffville, York Region or the Province of Ontario.

June 1 to June 3 2026: Temporary Lane Reduction

Description:

York Region will be completing a deficiency repair as part of the Stouffville Watermain Emergency Project. Due to current site constraints and equipment requirements a temporary lane restriction is required to complete the repair safely and efficiently 

Duration:

  • Monday, June 1, 2026 to Sunday, June 7, 2026

Impacts to travellers:

Although no major service impacts are anticipated, travellers may experience the following:  

  • Stouffville Road between McCowan Road and Highway 48 will be reduced to one eastbound lane during active work
  • Signage will be in place to guide travellers     

As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.

June to early August 2026: Temporary Lane Closure

Description

  • York Region is improving Stouffville Road from west of Woodbine Avenue to west of Highway 48
  • Intersection improvements on Stouffville Road at Woodbine Avenue, Warden Avenue, Kennedy Road and McCowan Road
    • Updating line painting and vehicle detection
  • Repairing and replacing culverts that allow water to flow freely under driveways
  • Updating guiderails, as required, that provide a barrier between vehicles and potentially hazardous situations

Duration

  • June to early August 2026

Impacts to travellers

  • The road will remain open to through traffic; however, temporary lane closure are required:
    • For major work, including paving, Monday to Friday nights, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • For other work, including intersection improvements, weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. And Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained

As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather or to accommodate other work underway in the area. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

May to November 2026: Road Preservation

Description

  • York Region is applying a road preservation treatment, called microsurfacing, to:
    • Yonge Street, Orchard Heights Boulevard to St. John’s Sideroad and
    • Savage Road/Sawmill Valley Drive to Davis Drive
    • Prospect Street, Gorham Street/Water Street to Davis Drive
    • Green Lane, 2nd Concession to Leslie Street
    • Vivian Road, east of Highway 404 to Woodbine Avenue
    • Davis Drive, Leslie Street to Harry Walker Parkway
    • Leslie Street, St. John’s Sideroad to north of St. John’s Sideroad
  • It is a common and cost-effective way to maintain roads with minor defects and extend the life of the road
  • The road surface can feel rougher and sound noisier after the treatment, but over time, the stones will settle and the surface will become quieter

  • May to November 2026

Impacts to travellers

  • Reduced lanes during repair and adjustment work
    • Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Nights, Monday to Saturday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Lane reductions to one in each direction on Yonge Street, Prospect Street, Green Lane, Davis Drive and Leslie Street
    • Nights, Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Lane reduction to one lane with flag personnel directing traffic on Vivian Road
    • Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained
