Hazardous Waste Disposal

In the Town of Stouffville, you need to dispose of household hazardous waste at one of York Region’s household hazardous waste depots. Putting household hazardous waste in the garbage or washing it down the drain can be dangerous to your family, our waste collection staff and the environment.

What is considered household hazardous waste?

Household hazardous waste includes materials such as:

  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
  • Household cleaners and detergents
  • Medical and bio-hazardous waste such as needles and syringes
  • Motor oil
  • Paints and solvents
  • Prescription medicine or pharmaceuticals
  • Windshield washer fluid

Medical and bio-hazardous

All medical waste including syringes must be properly placed in a secure bio-hazardous container before you take it to a hazardous waste facility.
